At Tao, food plays a bigger role than routine, it’s part of someone’s day, their enjoyment and their wellbeing. As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll support the preparation and delivery of meals that are safe, nutritious and tailored to individual needs. You’ll work closely with the Chef to maintain high standards across hygiene, safety and organisation, ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly. From supporting meal service to maintaining clean, compliant environments, your role helps create positive daily experiences. You’ll also communicate with care teams and understand dietary requirements, ensuring every meal supports the person receiving it.
This role is ideal if you take pride in doing things properly and understand the importance of consistency. You don’t need to be a chef, but you do need to care about quality, cleanliness and doing your part well. You’ll be someone who notices detail, works reliably as part of a team and understands that small actions can make a big difference. If you’re organised, willing to learn and motivated by contributing to a positive environment, you’ll thrive here. Most importantly, you’ll recognise that your work directly impacts people’s comfort, dignity and daily experience.
You’ll need a strong understanding of hygiene, safety and basic food handling, along with a willingness to follow processes and maintain standards. Experience in a kitchen or care environment is helpful but not essential – attitude matters more. You should be reliable, communicative and able to work as part of a team. A basic understanding of dietary needs and allergies is important, as is the ability to follow guidance from the Chef and wider team. Above all, you’ll need a responsible, proactive mindset and a genuine commitment to supporting others through the work you do.
